THIS WEEK’S HIGHLIGHTS @ THIRD EYE COMICS FOR WEDNESDAY 1/11/12

THE SCARLET SPIDER DEBUTS IN A BRAND NEW ONGOING SERIES THIS WEDNESDAY WITH SCARLET SPIDER #1
Meet The Red Hood of the Marvel Universe!

I think any one of us that happens to be a Marvel fan who was reading back in the ’90s remembers the first go-around with the SCARLET SPIDER, so it’s no wonder my nostalgia sense is getting hit pretty hard with the arrival of a brand new SCARLET SPIDER series this Wednesday from Marvel.

This one is looking to be pretty amazing though, with incredible artwork by rising star Ryan Stegman, and a fresh new story and plot by fan favorite X-MEN SECOND COMING writer CHRIS YOST.

Taking place after the events of SPIDER ISLAND (which was completely and totally awesome), the new SCARLET SPIDER ongoing puts the never-quite-can-catch-a-break clone of Peter Parker, KAINE, in the role of the new SCARLET SPIDER.

The story starts with the all-new Scarlet Spider finding himself on the run in Texas after saving NYC from becoming the world’s largest spider nest during Spider-Island. But when his escape is stopped by a super powered crime syndicate, Kaine must put an end to their corruption the only way he knows how… VIOLENTLY.

From what we’ve seen of the SCARLET SPIDER book, it’s a title where a character that’s very similar to Peter Parker can be taken to much darker, more difficult places in his life. The violence choices the character has made through years of struggle — the sins of youth, so to speak — have come at a brutal cost. He may hope that the things he’s done will be left to the past, but someone ALWAYS remembers who you used to be, right?

This new series redefines power and responsibility, and in our eyes: this is the equivalent of Marvel’s very own RED HOOD character. The similarities between DC’s own Jason Todd and Kaine are definitely there, and we think that this book will deliver the same kind of compelling storytelling with the character.

Don’t miss out on one of Marvel’s biggest surprise hits of 2012, snag yourself a copy of SCARLET SPIDER #1 this Wednesday.

BATMAN: THROUGH THE LOOKING GLASS GRAPHIC NOVEL DEBUTS THIS WEDNESDAY DELIVERING A NIGHTMARISH TALE OF THE FIRST MEETING OF BATMAN AND THE MAD HATTER

Featuring the legendary artist of THE MAXX and ARKHAM ASYLUM MADNESS, SAM KIETH

Batman is definitely the kind of character that really lends himself to the original graphic novel format, and hot on the heels of this past November’s BATMAN NOEL graphic novel, comes a kick-ass stand-alone graphic novel featuring the historic first meeting of the Mad Hatter and Batman.

Written by horror comics legend Bruce Jones, and illustrated by the one and only Sam Kieth (The Maxx, Arkham Asylum Madness), BATMAN: THROUGH THE LOOKING GLASS is a nightmarish look at the first meeting of BATMAN and the MAD HATTER, which causes the DARK KNIGHT to descend into a delirium-like state, which leaves him to wonder if the WONDERLAND he’s envisioning is the real thing, or a complete hallucination… all the while, trying to solve several deadly mysteries that have plagued Gotham for decades.

Sam Kieth is on point here, bringing the kind of bad-ass psychedelic artwork as seen in THE MAXX and other great series, to the story in a big way. His take on Wonderland and it’s inhabitants are as twisted as you could imagine, and it’s compelling to see a story told today of the first meeting between Hatter and Batman.

This one’s a must-read for any of you who’re huge BATMAN fans, and we highly recommend snagging a copy to add to your Bat-library this Wednesday.

WHISPERS #1- JOSHUA LUNA, co-creator of THE SWORD & GIRLS, debuts his brand new IMAGE series this WEDNESDAY with an incredible new supernatural thriller

We were HUGE, HUGE HUGE fans of the Luna Brothers past series like THE SWORD, GIRLS, and ULTRA, so when we heard that Joshua Luna was kicking off a new IMAGE series with WHISPERS in 2012, we were pretty freakin’ stoked.

If you’re familiar with THE SWORD, or GIRLS, then you know that they were some real deal, quality comics, and brought a unique blending of genres to comics that really made them stand out.

Now, Joshua Luna brings us his next hit, with WHISPERS #1 this Wednesday.

The story focuses on a mentally troubled man who is suddenly empowered with the ability to leave his physical body in ‘ghost’ form and manipulate people in strange and disturbing ways. With this incredible power, will he control his demons…or discover even more? Joshua Luna makes a solo debut with a dark, supernatural thriller that questions free will and explores the obsessions, addictions and urges we all have and may not have control of at all.

A fascinating new kind of series that we really feel is going to make a huge splash in 2012, we highly recommend hopping aboard this Wednesday with issue #1, and finding out why the Lunas have such a great track record with past projects.

Whispers looks to be a great blend of real-life horror, reminiscent of films like AUDITION, with a healthy dose of supernatural sci-fi weirdness. We’re stoked about this one, and in a big way. Make sure you take a peek at this one this Wednesday. Plus: Luna’s art is INCREDIBLE, so you’re not just getting a killer story, but you’re getting a really slick looking book too.

LOBSTER JOHNSON & THE BURNING HAND #1 HITS THIS WEDNESDAY DELIVERING PULP HERO MADNESS FROM HELLBOY CREATOR MIKE MIGNOLA

Most of you know that we’re pretty big fans here of pulpier stuff, like ATOMIC ROBO, INCOGNITO, and so on, and so forth, ya know? So, when we saw that Dark Horse and Mike Mignola (who were also HUGE fans of, HELLBOY FTW), we’re pairing up to tell a story of pulpy, mad science-fueled adventure… we couldn’t help but get excited. Seriously. I mean, Mignola already brings the best elements of a good pulp novel to comic book life in most of his HELLBOY stuff, so to see him tackling the genre of characters reminiscent of THE SHADOW, DOC SAVAGE, and more, in a big way, is pretty freakin’ awesome.

Dark, and eerie, while carrying that balance of pulpy high adventure, Lobster Johnson takes on the case of policemen finding themselves with their scalps being torn off.. seriously, ripped right off, and the ghostly apparitions he finds at the end of the trail may lead him to his strangest case yet.

WOLVERINE #300 – WOLVERINE RETURNS TO IT’S ORIGINAL NUMBERING THIS WEDNESDAY WITH IT’S 300th MONUMENTAL ISSUE, AND KICKS OFF THE BIGGEST WOLVERINE STORY SINCE OLD MAN LOGAN!

WRITTEN BY “WOLVERINE & THE X-MEN” and “INCREDIBLE HULK” writer JASON AARON, and ILLUSTRATED BY COMICS LEGEND ADAM KUBERT

WOLVERINE drops a historic landmark this Wednesday with WOLVERINE #300, as the current series returns to it’s original numbering, and kicks off the boldest story arc we’ve seen since the beginnings of OLD MAN LOGAN.

Written by Jason Aaron, the phenomenal talent that’s been penning WOLVERINE AND THE X-MEN and INCREDIBLE HULK, and illustrated by the legendary ADAM KUBERT, this is looking to be one of the biggest WOLVERINE stories launched in a long time, and we are pretty stoked to see where things go with this modern-classic in the making.

The story begins with Wolverine traveling to Tokyo to confront his most dangerous enemy yet, all the while, a new Silver Samurai is rising to power in the place of the former Silver Samurai.

One of the most action-packed, cover-to-cover awesome issues we’ve seen of a Marvel Comic, this one definitely has the same kind of scope and feel of FANTASTIC FOUR #600, which was also a non-stop action-packed monument of amazing storytelling.

This one returns WOLVERINE to his roots, taking him back to Japan, putting him in the thick of a brutal, and unrelenting battle against the Yakuza, and the clan of Ninja assassins known as THE HAND.

This story arc is going to have it all, from THE KINGPIN (yes, THAT KINGPIN), THE HAND, and of course.. the return of Logan’s arch-nemesis, SABRETOOTH.

Also, returning, we’ll see Yukio, from the original CLAREMONT and MILLER WOLVERINE mini-series, and Amiko, Wolverine’s adopted daughter, both playing big roles in the story.

This should be a freakin’ awesome read, and it starts off what looks to be the most exciting WOLVERINE arc we’ve seen since OLD MAN LOGAN debuted a few years back.

Make sure you snag yourself a copy of this landmark issue this Wednesday, and hop aboard.

THIRD EYE FAVORITE HEART CONTINUES THIS WEDNESDAY WITH HEART #3 FROM BLAIR BUTLER AND KEVIN MELLON

One of our favorite launches of 2011, and our vote for best debut series of 2011, continues this Wednesday with HEART #3, which gives us the penultimate chapter of Oren ‘Rooster’ Redmond’s rise to the top in the world of mixed martial arts.

If you’re not yet reading, HEART, Third Eye Faithful, you need to remedy that, for sure. The storytelling of Blair Butler is on point here, as she uses the world of cage-fighting to tell a complex, and compelling character-driven story amidst the background of no-holds-barred, bone-breaking madness. Kevin Mellon’s art-style is perfect for the series, bringing a visceral, in-your-face feel to the story that not only helps make the fight sequences jump off the page at you, but, brings a believable emotional element to the characters involved.

The story itself reads like a mash-up of the movie WARRIOR, FIGHT CLUB, and GOODFELLAS, as we watch one man’s journey from disenfranchised office drone to cage-fighting superstar, all in a desperate attempt to try and accomplish the lifestyle that his brother seems to live so easily.

Kick-ass storytelling, kick-ass art, one of the best IMAGE books to launch in 2011, if you missed issues 1 & 2, don’t worry, ’cause we’ve got both issues in stock to catch you up to this week’s #3.

BATWOMAN #5 – ARE YOU READING BATWOMAN? NO? YOU’RE MISSING OUT ON ONE OF THE BEST DC NEW 52s ON THE STANDS! FIND OUT WHY WE LOVE THIS SERIES

DUDE. You have gotta be reading BATWOMAN. Seriously. This is one of the best damn DC NEW 52s on the stands, and each issue just continues to impress the heck out of us.

JH WILLIAMS is telling a comic classic here, as he brings both his amazing artwork, and gift at storytelling to the series in a big way.

The story of BATWOMAN is a compelling one, as Kate Kane has turned out to be one of the most interesting characters to debut in Gotham City in the last decade. Her origins are somewhat similar to Batman’s, in that she lost family as a child, but it wasn’t that event that drove her to take up the mantle of the Bat, but instead a moment of personal vulnerability after a dark point in her life, that brought her to the path of the Bat.

JH Williams builds a whole new corner of Gotham in this title, as he introduces incredible new characters, both supporting cast and villains, and brings the entire thing to life in lush, vivid artwork that only he can do.

The storytelling technique he uses of balancing softer, more traditional comic art with his dynamic painted style to differentiate between Kate’s secret identity, and when she’s Batwoman, has always been a favorite of ours.

This Wednesday, the first arc finishes up with Hydrology coming to it’s conclusion.

Not reading BATWOMAN yet? Snag issues 1-5, we’ve got ‘em all in stock, and get caught up on one of the DC NEW 52’s best new titles.

TRANSFORMERS: MORE THAN MEETS THE EYE #1 BEGINS A BRAND NEW TRANSFORMERS ONGOING SERIES THIS WEDNESDAY FOLLOWING UP HOT ON THE HEELS OF TRANSFORMERS: THE DEATH OF OPTIMUS PRIME

The Transformers return this Wednesday in a brand new ongoing series, which serves as an excellent jumping on point for new readers, as it follows up on last month’s kick-ass DEATH OF OPTIMUS PRIME one-shot.

Reuniting the incredible fan-favorite creative team behind TRANSFORMERS: LAST STAND OF THE WRECKERS, this new ongoing series sends the Transformers on an epic quest to the farthest reaches of the Transformers Universe and beyond, as they search for purpose in a future without Optimus to lead them.

We’re really loving a lot of the stuff that IDW has been putting together with their licensed books, like GI JOE, and NINJA TURTLES, and we’re stoked to see Transformers getting the same fresh breath of air into them as these other properties.

AMAZING SPIDER-MAN #677 *DAREDEVIL / SPIDER-MAN CROSSOVER BEGINS WITH “DEVIL IN THE DETAILS PT 1″* – TWO OF OUR FAVORITE ONGOING MARVEL TITLES CROSSOVER THIS MONTH FOR ONE KICK-ASS READ

Okay, so there’s two Marvel titles you guys have seen us ranting, and raving about for the last few months, and you know what they are: DAREDEVIL and AMAZING SPIDER-MAN. Both books are better than they have been in years, with A+ creative teams kicking out the jams month in, and month out, and delivering some of the funnest Marvel books on the stands.

So, what happens when you take, and cross these two incredible books over? You get something really, really freakin’ cool. I mean, D&D and Spidey have always been easy characters to connect story lines with just due to the fact of where they operate out of, and the street-level nature of the characters, but no one does it better than DAREDEVIL writer MARK WAID as he kicks off DEVIL IN THE DETAILS chapter 1 in this week’s AMAZING SPIDER-MAN #677.

And, dude… Emma Rios’s artwork has gotten better, and better. We loved her on last year’s Cloak and Dagger mini, and her stuff on this looks even more incredible. A perfect compliment to Waid’s kick-ass story of Black Cat’s arrest, and Matt Murdock being the only lawyer who’ll pick up her case.

The storyline begins in this month’s AMAZING SPIDER-MAN #677, and then continues in next month’s DAREDEVIL #8.

Hop aboard, and find out why these are two of the best Marvel titles we’re reading right now.

THE UNWRITTEN TP VOL.5 – THE UNWRITTEN CONTINUES TO CAPTIVATE US! A MUST READ FOR FANS OF NEIL GAIMAN, FABLES, AND SANDMAN!

The Unwritten has proven to be one of the most compelling, and interesting Vertigo series on the stands for the last few months, and has done a fantastic job of keeping us hooked.

Mike Carey, writer of LUCIFER, tells a tale of Tom Taylor, the son of an author who disappeared without a trace at the height of his popularity and was known for a series of books about a boy wizard known as Tommy Taylor. Tom is generally portrayed at the start of the story as being very jaded about his status of living off the fact that he was the inspiration for the Tommy Taylor character, but at the very start of the story, Tom finds out that he’s not the Tom Taylor he thought he was..in fact, he’s not real at all, but is in actuality the Tommy Taylor character his father had been writing about.

From there, we’re taken on a crazy journey through literary history, as various characters are written, whether it be settings, like the Swiss mansion where Mary Shelley wrote Frankenstein, or writers themselves, the UNWRITTEN brings a ton of interesting things together in one fascinating story.

A must-read for anyone who’s a fan of modern fantasy that’s along the lines of the stuff Neil Gaiman does in his books now, and his past works like SANDMAN, or stuff similar to FABLES, UNWRITTEN is one of our favorite Vertigo books on the stands, and continues to be so every month.

Wanna get started with it? Snag volume 1, and find out why we’re so stoked about this week’s vol.5

STRANGE TALENT OF LUTHOR STRODE #4 HITS THIS WEDNESDAY, A MUST-READ FOR KICK-ASS FANS, THIS SERIES HAS US HOOKED!

HOP ABOARD NOW WITH ISSUES #1-4, AND CATCH UP IN TIME FOR NEXT MONTH’S BIG SIGNING WITH LUTHOR STRODE CREATIVE TEAM JUSTIN JORDAN & TRADD MOORE

The Strange Talent of Luthor Strode has been really turning out to be a HUGE favorite here at the shop. You guys can’t get enough of it, and to be honest, neither can we. The book is really one of the most promising things we saw hit this past fall, and the combination of Justin Jordan’s fresh, and clever plot with Tradd Moore’s INCREDIBLE artwork, has got us hooked.

I don’t know why, but when I look at FIST OF THE NORTH STAR on the surface, my pop-culture drowned brain just screams KICK-ASS meets FIST OF THE NORTH STAR, and folks: that’s a great comparison. Bigger-than-life action, and a fresh take on the increasingly popular real-world superhero genre, LUTHOR STRODE has us hooked.

The story centers around a high school comic fan who sends away for one of those Charles Atlas-style Get Big ads in the back of a comic, and ends up getting something much more sinister in return. He quickly turns into a powerhouse of ultra-violent badassery, and decides to use his newfound abilities to stop crime, of course, finding crime is hard, and it’s these little realistic and clever touches on the vigilante genre that makes Strode such a fun read.

And, now, after a subtle build-up of the sinister character who’s given Strode his powers, the Librarian, we finally learn in this week’s issue #4 the sinister origins of Strode’s newfound abilities, and what the pinstriped madman has planned for him.

MEET JUSTIN JORDAN & TRADD MOORE, writer and artist of STRANGE TALENT OF LUTHOR STRODE, at THIRD EYE ANNAPOLIS on SATURDAY 2/18

Also, coming up next month, we’ve got the creative team of LUTHOR STRODE, Tradd Moore and Justin Jordan, signing at Third Eye in Annapolis on Saturday 2/18. So, make sure to get caught up on this great series now, so you can have them sign your copies next month!

STAR WARS: KNIGHTS OF THE OLD REPUBLIC WAR #1 – TYING DIRECTLY INTO THE OLD REPUBLIC VIDEO GAME, AND SERVING AS A PERFECT ENTRY POINT TO ANYONE NEW TO THE STAR WARS COMICS, THIS IS A MUST-READ

A perfect entry point into one of the most popular eras of the STAR WARS galaxy, this new series is a MUST for anyone who’s a big fan of the OLD REPUBLIC era.

INCREDIBLE HULK #4 – THE BEST HULK SERIES WE’VE READ IN AGES CONTINUES THIS WEDNESDAY WITH INCREDIBLE HULK #4

Folks, I have gotta tell you: if you’re not reading the new INCREDIBLE HULK series, then you are seriously missing out on one of the BEST Marvel books on the stands. Jason Aaron (WOLVERINE & THE X-MEN, SCALPED) is delivering some of his best work here, and the one-two punch of MARC SILVESTRI and WHILCE PORTACIO, both big-time comics legends in their own right, brings the book to life in a big way.

In the new INCREDIBLE HULK series, we’ve seen Banner and Hulk split from one another, with Hulk retreating beneath the surface of the Earth and taking his role as protector of the Moleoids, and Banner slowly going more, and more mad as he becomes obsessed with regaining and recreating the Hulk aspect of his personality.

Now, on his very own gamma-irradiated island that once served as a test site for gamma bombs, Banner is creating monstrosity after monstrosity from the local wildlife, in his attempts to recreate the Hulk.

And, in this week’s issue #4… the Hulk and Banner finally come head to head, as Banner unleashes an army of gamma-irradiated beasts on him.

Bigger-than-life, with sharp storytelling, incredible artwork, and the one thing we all want most out of a good Hulk comic: loads of cool monsters, the new INCREDIBLE HULK ongoing is amazing, and we highly recommend getting on board with it.

BATMAN AND ROBIN #5 – THE SLEEPER HIT OF THE BAT-BOOKS CONTINUES TO IMPRESS AS DAMIAN WAYNE CONTINUES TO BE A FAN-FAVORITE AT THIRD EYE

We are continuously impressed by how great BATMAN AND ROBIN has been. Peter Tomasi and Patrick Gleason are really delivering what is the best kept secret of the BATMAN line, and while there’s a TON of good stuff coming out of the BATMAN titles right now, we really feel that those of you not reading BATMAN AND ROBIN, need to give this one a shot.

Gleason’s art is fantastic, a great polished look that really brings the book to life in a big way, and he gets better and better with each issue. Tomasi has a great knack for writing the world of Gotham, and more importantly, he’s probably the best writer we’ve seen when it comes to handling Damian since Morrison left the book.

And, really, that’s the true star here, Damian Wayne, the snotty little brat that’s turned into one of the most interesting and complex characters in the DCU.

We love the long-term character development treatment that Damian has been given over the last few years, and Tomasi continues to do so, as he tells a kick-ass action-packed BATMAN story at the same time.

Missed issues 1-4? We’ve got copies of each in stock to catch you up.

INVINCIBLE VOL.15 GET SMART HITS THIS WEDNESDAY DELIVERING YOUR NEXT FIX OF ROBERT KIRKMAN’S INCREDIBLE SUPERHERO EPIC.

LOVE WALKING DEAD? TRY KIRKMAN’S OTHER TOP SHELF AWESOME READ, INVINCIBLE

It’s always a time to cheer when we get a new volume of INVINCIBLE, and folks, this one has been a long-time coming. We know that many of you reading this are going to be pretty darn stoked to see this in the shop on Wednesday, and we don’t blame you!

After the shocking events of volume 14, and all that Viltrumite War craziness that went down, you’re kinda left hanging, right? And, Kirkman is always so freaking good at doing that to us readers, right?

I’m not going to even touch on what’s going down in the latest volume of INVINCIBLE, cause you know: spoilers suck.

Instead, I’m going to use this as an opportunity to tell all of you who haven’t yet read INVINCIBLE WHY you gotta try this phenomenal book.

First off, it’s written by ROBERT KIRKMAN, the man who gives us WALKING DEAD, and lets face it, WALKING DEAD is amazing, but what do you do while you’re waiting for volume 16 or a new issue to come out? Well, you read INVINCIBLE, that’s what.

INVINCIBLE does for the superhero genre what WALKING DEAD did for the survival horror genre. In other words, it humanizes it, introduces strongly developed characters, has tons of surprise plot twists, and all in all, just manages to surprise you with each and every issue.

The bigger-than-life high in the sky fights in INVINCIBLE have real consequences, and the unrelenting super powered fist fights end with bloody and broken warriors… in other words: this is a superhero world portrayed at it’s most realistic. And, we don’t mean that in the traditional grim and gritty sense of realistic, but in terms of just a purely compelling take on the characters, and the world around them.

Do yourself a favor, and snag INVINCIBLE vol.1 this Wednesday, and find out why we love this series so much.

ULTIMATE SPIDER-MAN writer BRIAN MICHAEL BENDIS reunites with original ULTIMATE SPIDERMAN artist MARK BAGLEY TO TELL A STORY OF COLLEGE STUDENTS TRYING TO INVENT SUPERPOWERS IN THE REAL WORLD WITH BRILLIANT #2

BRILLIANT debuted recently, and we totally loved the first issue, and are so stoked to see #2 hitting this Wednesday. This new creator-owned series from the writer of ULTIMATE SPIDER-MAN, delivers a fascinating real-world take on superpowers, as a handful of genius college students have taken it upon themselves to crack the mystery of superpowers. Can it be done? Can science fiction become science fact? That’s the question that Brilliant poses, and we’re stoked to see the story unfold.

We loved the first issue, as this is a great platform for Bendis’s natural talent for believable dialogue, and strong character development, and we can’t wait to read the full issue of this week’s #2.

Missed issue #1? We’ve got copies in stock to catch you up.

WOLVERINE & THE X-MEN #4 – JASON AARON, writer of INCREDIBLE HULK & SCALPED, IS DELIVERING ONE OF THE BEST NEW X-MEN BOOKS WE’VE SEEN SINCE THE DEBUT OF UNCANNY X-FORCE

We are totally loving the new X-Books, with WOLVERINE AND THE X-MEN leading the way as our favorite of the line. The book is just so damn fresh, and has such a unique feel to it that we haven’t seen from a team book in a long time. It really kind of takes us back to the kind of humor and fun of the Joe Kelly-era of X-Men books, while bringing in the cutting edge weirdness and widescreen action of Morrison’s run.

In other words: it’s freakin’ awesome. Wolverine is a natural fit as the Professor X-like mentor to the school, and it’s interesting to see him in this kind of new role, and it really is a great evolution of the character.

We also love the line-up of new characters that’ve been introduced, along with some of the more over-the-top elements, like the army of Frankenstein monsters, and the Brood student. Plus: KID GLADIATOR!

Seriously though, this book rocks, and if you’re remotely even slightly an X-Men fan, you gotta check it out.

CARNAGE USA #2 – The murderous symbiote continues to cut a path across the United States in CARNAGE USA!

CARNAGE USA was a big hit last month at the shop, and lets face it: that’s no surprise, ’cause last year’s CARNAGE mini-series which reintroduced Kletus Casidy and the murderous symbiotic was also very well-received.

And, now, we’re stoked to see the series continuing on this Wednesday with CARNAGE USA #2, which delivers another issue of pure genocidal mayhem, as CARNAGE embarks on a mass-murder rampage across the UNITED STATES, and the AVENGERS are out to stop him.

And, it looks like it may fall on Spidey as the only one who can truly bring Carnage down. Will he and the Avengers make a deal with the devil, and suit up in their own symbioses to take out CARNAGE?

As always, Clayton Crain’s incredible artwork is the star of the show here, but Zeb Wells also delivers a well-crafted, and compelling story. We’re huge fans of these two guys and their work on CARNAGE recently, so we’re pretty pumped for this issue #2.

Missed the first issue? We’ve got copies in stock to catch you up this Wednesday.

A MUST FOR FANS OF GLADSTONE’S ACADEMY, SCOTT PILGRIM, & ATOMIC ROBO

One of 2011’s funnest IMAGE debuts was THE INTREPIDS, from GREEN WAKE writer KURTIS J. WIEBE. We totally love this crazy fun series which stars a collection of runaway and homeless teenagers that have been taken in and cared for by an aging inventory named Dante. Applying his brilliance, he crafts marvelous technological contraptions.

With his vision and help, the teenagers agree to don his technology for the betterment of mankind. Together, they combat tyranny and stop madmen from bringing harm to the world.

SACRIFICE #2 HITS THIS WEDNESDAY, THE SECOND ISSUE OF THE RED HOT NEW INDIE GEM THAT DEBUTED LAST MONTH! LIMITED DISTRIBUTION!

SACRIFICE took the comic industry by storm last month, as it debuted as quite possibly the hottest indie book of 2011. Writer Sam Humphries wowed us with OUR LOVE IS REAL, and his follow-up, SACRIFICE, is even better.

The combination of Sam’s compelling story, and Dalton Rose’s incredible artwork makes for one hell of a book, and the production values on the book are very impressive for a title that’s been completely self-distributed.

We were very honored, and flattered to be amongst the limited amount of stores in the nation that carried SACRIFICE, and we’re really glad we’ve pledged strong support to the title, because it’s INCREDIBLE. A real pleasure to look at, SACRIFICE is a unique story about a man who’s ripped from the 21st century and thrown into the middle of one of the greatest — and most bloodthirsty — civilizations in human history? How does he survive a strange world of war, blood, sacrifice, and death?

In issue #1 of SACRIFICE, Hector found himself on a one-way trip through the past, the present, and the psychedelic into the glory of the Aztec Empire. A comic all about ritual murder? How rad is that?

So, young Hector, a Joy Division fan with a neurological condition, and unknown abilities of time-travel, finds himself laid out and ready to be sacrificed at the feet of Montezuma.

Totally kick-ass, we’re stoked on this title in a big way, and highly recommend you pick up issue #1 (in stock and available now at Third Eye), and catch up to this week’s #2.

With the distribution of this one being extremely limited, and us being the only store in the state carrying the book, we do want to warn you that these may go quickly, so if you’d like us to hold you one, just shoot us an e-mail.
