This is it, Third Eye Faithful, the huge conclusion to Marvel’s massive AGE OF ULTRON storyline. As you all know, AGE OF ULTRON has been the lead-in event to the upcoming MARVEL: INFINITY storyline which looks to the biggest thing to hit Marvel in ages… I mean, if you thought AVENGERS VS. At first, it’s a cool, straight-forward TERMINATOR WARS in the MARVEL UNIVERSE kinda story.. but then around issue 5, it gets very interesting.

How so, you ask? Well the concept of Marvel multiverses enters the equation, and we start seeing glimpses and tastes of all the various Marvel alternate worlds blending into together… and, major things happening in these worlds that may impact the regular 616 Marvel Universe.

So, where do we go from here? Well, the rumors swirling around AGE OF ULTRON #10 are many, and the only thing that has been revealed as fact is the Neil Gaiman character ANGELA (from the series SPAWN) will make her MARVEL debut here.

For Marvel to be bringing not only ANGELA, but Gaiman himself in for what’s to come… we know we’re in store for some MAJOR stuff, and we cannot wait to see how it plays out.

We’ve witnessed everything since the conclusion of AVENGERS VS. X-MEN, and the onset of the MARVEL NOW, leading up to this massive event that fires it’s preliminary shots this June with a handful of prelude tie-ins before kicking into full swing with August’s INFINITY limited series officially dropping… and, we are PUMPED!

What is MARVEL Infinity?

Marvel INFINITY is the bigger-than-life storyline that follows hot on the heels of AGE OF ULTRON, which is the official set-up storyline for INFINITY, and it’s looking to be one of the most exciting things to sweep through Marvel in ages.

While there’s still a ton of mystery surrounding this storyline, we do know a few things. First: INFINITY is being written by the incredibly talented scribe behind EAST OF WEST, MANHATTAN PROJECTS, AVENGERS, and more. Secondly, it’s being illustrated by all-star talents like JIM CHEUNG (AVENGERS: CHILDREN’S CRUSADE, YOUNG AVENGERS) and JEROME OPENA (UNCANNY X-FORCE, AVENGERS), and then third, it’s a six-issue limited series that begins in August.

The story is set to unfold on two fronts: Earth, which Thanos has targeted for an attack, and outer space, where the Avengers are confronting the threat of the Builders, which is something that’s been brewing in Hickman’s own avengers RUN.

The bigger scale of the story looks to include characters from across the Marvel Universe, with a heavy emphasis on cosmic favorites  THE INHUMANS.

The storyline looks to sweep through several titles outside of the main event, ranging from New Avengers to Captain Marvel to Avengers to Scarlet Spider, and more.

Choose Your Own Adventure…

One element of INFINITY that’s very cool is that while the event spans the entire Marvel Universe, Hickman is writing it in a way where you can only follow the aspects you find compelling, and not be lost in regards to what’s going on. Of course, if you’re anything like us, you’re going to want to get every piece of the puzzle, and then some!

Exciting New Characters

While the focus will be on the icons of the Marvel Universe, we’re stoked to hear about some of the new characters that Hickman will be adding, like Corvus Glave, who acts as a General to THANOS.  We’re pretty pumped to see what Hickman has in store, as he’s proven in the past how great he can be at building new characters and new worlds.

An INFINITY Crisis?

From everything we’re reading about the event, and from the looks of the recent AGE OF ULTRON maxiseries, which sets up INFINITY — this storyline is shaping up to resemble what could be Marvel’s own CRISIS ON INFINITE EARTHS.

We know that this event is supposed to be a major game-changer, and there’s all sorts of rumors swirling about multiverses, and different universes colliding… could INFINITY be where we see all of the Marvel Earths merge into one?

What to Expect from INFINITY #1

By far, the best STAR WARS comic we’ve read since STAR WARS LEGACY, the current STAR WARS ongoing delivers the kind of Trilogy-era STAR WARS storytelling we love, and Brian Wood’s writing is on point in a major way here.

When he and Chewbacca are cornered by Imperials, Han Solo resorts to an improvised plan — with the most dangerous results imaginable!

Meanwhile, half a galaxy away, Princess Leia and Wedge Antilles prepare for certain death, unaware that Luke Skywalker has an improvisation of his own.

And, all the while.. Vader is watching.

Nothing has felt more true, and more akin to the original STAR WARS films than this new comic series, while still introducing new angles, and a modern take.

The book is so good, it’s not even funny.

This fantastic series marks the return of SUPERMAN EARTH ONE and RISING STARS writer J. MICHAEL STRACZYNSKI to creator-owned work, and we’re loving it, as that’s where he really shines best.

In TEN GRAND #2, we’re promised a lot of things: one cult church where incantations are encoded into the playlist; one flesh-dwelling, food-obsessed demon; one seer capable of perceiving the spirit world but blinded to this one; one missing woman; one murder; one angel with an agenda of his own; and one rendezvous between supernatural investigator Joe Fitzgerald and the woman he loves, now deceased, in what may or may not be heaven.

And, folks, it delivers every single one.

What’s this series about? Joe was a bad guy. He killed a lot of people for money in his life, until one day, he and his wife, the one pure thing in his life, found themselves meeting an early demise.

Now, Joe works for the angels, see, each time he takes out a bad guy for them; he gets five minutes in heaven with his wife.  But, only five minutes — so the cycle has to keep going forever.

Great artwork, great storytelling, we can’t recommend this one enough.

Imagine SUPERMAN behaving in the most iconic, yet fascinating way you’ve never seen him portrayed, or what if Batman’s reasoning for hunting evil at night was due to an affliction that left him a vampire forced to prey on the blood of evil?

The series is just so freakin’ well written, and well put together that we really do love everything about it, and I’m stoked to be able to get the chance to turn you guys onto it this week.

In the very first issue, which is totally new-reader friendly, the Ambassador (kind of a mix of Galactus, Silver Surfer and Kirby’s NEW GODS) comes to Earth, and an ordinary man is caught up in a cosmic conflict.

Featuring the Samaritan (i.e Superman) and Honor Guard (the Justice League), as well as the debut of some very interesting new characters.

Astro City is the ultimate comic for people who just plain love comic books.

We love this spin on the X-Men, as the original team has traveled from the past and into the present day to find themselves horrified at what they become. Jean Grey’s shock at her future fate as the Dark Phoenix, Scott Summer’s disgust at what he becomes post-AvX, and Angel’s revelations at his events during the Dark Angel Saga.

All fascinating, and all compelling. One of the best books out.
